The telling of stories at the close of day is a tradition as old as language itself.  It is a time for magical fantasy, and for the teaching of customs, traditions, and concepts.  Traditional folk stories often emerged from scary events, and/or people exhibiting anti-social behaviors, or good versus evil plotlines.  Interesting and exciting that's for sure.  Perhaps not necessarily the prerequisite to a good night's sleep, or inspiring to inquisitive young thinkers.  As a personal challenge I have sought to develop adventure storylines based on another canvas.   And additionally, always grounded in solid historical and scientific fact.

The stories are written for persons in age ranging maximally from six to twelve.  At the younger ages they are intended to be shared aloud, but good readers, and at about age nine will have success with their own reading.

Settings come mostly from my experiences in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest's Puget Sound Basin.  The plots are total fantasy, but based on concepts and curiosities found in our universe

I have always held the desire to write meaningful and fun stories for young folks.  Early retirement provided me the opportunity to "nanny" our four granddaughters.  As each grew beyond the picture- book stage, I became aware of the need for more books for this  " 'tweener " age group, and I became motivated to try my hand writing for them.  My Biological Science and Developmental Psychology college studies, my concern for the environment we will leave our descendants, my interest in language and learning, plus my own personal struggles with dyslexia, have flavored my style.

I hope you find the whimsical tales I have created to your liking.

The Illustrations were created by Brenda Laster.  In addition to her full-time optics lab manager career, she is a   freelance commercial artist with several completed projects to her credit.  As a hobby she also enjoys creating  illustrations. Colored pencils is her medium of choice.

Her daughter, Delacey, who has a strong interest in  insects and dragony things, created the dragon illustration for The Bridge Over the Edge of Tomorrow.  Delacey plans to pursue academics leading to a career in marine biology. She was in the sixth grade when she created the illustration for the story.
